How to make a LAMELLA piece. Hale County Animal Shelter

What is a Lamella piece?
Project: Hale County Animal Shelter
Client: Hale County Commission.
Design-Build Team:  Jeffrey Bazzell. Julieta Collart. Connely Farr. Lana Smelley.
Structural Engineer: Joe Farruggia. [GFGR], Anderson Inge [Anderson Inge Engineer + Architect]
Environmental Engineer: Paul Stoller [Atelier Ten]
Location: Greensboro, Alabama.

Once the curve of the roof was defined in a 3D model, we were able to take information and translate it to full scale templates that guided our tools in the fabrication of the pieces. We then used an aseembly line for the manufacturing of the different parts for each piece.
Curve template
Bolt template
This template was our guide when drilling the holes for bolts. The angle at which these had to be drilled was also taken from the 3D model.
The ends were cut with a chop saw, using compound angles taken from the 3D model.
Oblong center hole template
The oblong center hole, was drilled with a handheld router. This template controlled the movement of the base of the router, and forced it to drill the oblong shape correctly every time.
All pieces are made from 2x8x8 standard lumber pieces. This means anyone can fabricate a roof like this one. All the pieces are the same. One of the pieces that connected to the column was cut short in order to end the pattern correctly.
Lamellae pieces assembled and their base connection.
